Man, talk about going from famine to feast. AP via The Golf Channel:
The PGA TOUR is returning to the nation's capital with a guy who carries more clout than anyone in golf: Tiger Woods.
Woods will join Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus as hosts of a PGA TOUR event, although still to be announced was a title sponsor and a golf course for the new tournament in the Washington, D.C., area during Fourth of July week.
The funny thing is, if the PGA's schedule hadn't been disrupted to accommodate the comical FedEx Cup, and if Booz Allen hadn't refused the fall slot it was offered to keep golf in the DC area, this never would have happened. And much as everybody here liked what we used to call The Kemper, Tiger never played it and probably never would have.
Now we have a July 4th tournament, perfectly fitting for the nation's capital, with a permanent Tiger Woods relationship, all made possible because the International out in Denver folded... since they never got Tiger.
We'll take it.
